Odalys's lake-view home in Lakeway had a rooftop deck, and a straight stair would have eaten the deck below. We measured floor to deck on site, built the steel treads and center column in the shop with a bronze powder coat, and bolted the column to a new pad for an 11 ft rise in a 5 ft diameter spiral. The job came to an estimated $3,800 to $5,600 and took an estimated 3 to 5 days on site, and the spiral takes about one quarter of the space a straight run needs.

Spiral Stairs or a Straight Run

A spiral suits a tight deck, a straight run suits a wide landing, and a half-turn stair suits a corner.

Iron Staircase Cost in Round Rock

A spiral staircase is typically an estimated $1,300 to $6,000 per staircase, and the rise, the diameter and the finish move the total most. Odalys's 11 ft rise in Lakeway came to an estimated $3,800 to $5,600, while a short patio spiral in Cedar Park sits near the bottom of that range.

Staircase Codes and Safety Risks

A stair that sways or bounces is a safety risk, so the column, the pad and the anchors carry the load, not the deck rail. We bolt the column to a new pad, as we did for Odalys in Lakeway, and ask the city and your HOA what applies before we cut steel. Near Old Town, the Historic Overlay calls for a Certificate of Appropriateness, even though Round Rock otherwise asks for no residential fence permit. Spiked and open-picket fencing has been off the table in Lakeway since 2019, with a continuous flat top required, so a Lakeway stair rail draws on stocked flat-top rails and brown or bronze finishes, the same stock we use where design rules bar spear points or black. A stair is not a fence, but where its rail runs on as a yard enclosure, Georgetown's UDC 8.07 fence permit can apply, and Cedar Park under Sec 14.07.007 requires none.

Staircase Installation Steps

We measure floor to deck on site, build the treads in the shop, set the center column on a new pad, and bolt each tread to the column, which is how Odalys's spiral went in over an estimated 3 to 5 days in Lakeway. Footings run 24 to 36 in deep and 10 to 12 in wide, poured in 3,000 to 4,000 PSI concrete, and the Balcones Escarpment runs through this part of Texas, so we check the soil on site.

Iron Staircase Materials and Railings

A stair and its rail should match in bar, coat and spacing, so a landing rail in Round Rock is built from the same stock. See our iron railings for porch stairs in Georgetown, or the iron balconies page for Cedar Park decks, and we check every anchor against the pad.

Why Homeowners Trust Our Stair Builds

Every staircase is covered by our 2-year workmanship warranty on our welds and footings. Add a powered gate or an aluminum panel run at the foot of the stair and the makers step in: motors and control electronics typically get 1 to 5 years on parts depending on the model, and aluminum fence panels get limited lifetime coverage on structure and finish.

Iron Staircase Service Areas

We build iron staircases across the Austin metro, with most work in Lakeway, Georgetown and Cedar Park, plus Leander and the other cities on our service area page.
