Lupe's acreage lot off SH 29 in Georgetown needed a new entry, and the owner wanted the scroll from an old family gate worked into a new pair. We traced the old scroll for the Georgetown pair, cut new panels from it and built the frames in heavier tube, a build that typically takes 2 to 3 days to hang. The 18 ft opening with two 9 ft leaves in an 11-gauge steel frame, ranch scroll panel, bronze powder coat came to an estimated $5,400 to $7,600 over an estimated 2 to 3 days on site. Lupe's two matched leaves hang on new posts, and the Georgetown fence permit was in hand before the first hole.

Our Fabrication Process, Step by Step

A custom gate starts as a drawing of your actual opening and ends as welded steel that has been finished before it leaves the shop. The order matters because a leaf that is drawn first never has to be forced to fit later.

  • Survey: we measure the opening, the grade and the post spacing, then shoot the swing or slide path so the bottom rail clears the ground.
  • Drawing: you approve the top line, the scroll pattern and the picket layout before any steel is cut.
  • Welding: the frame goes together in the shop, and the weight sets the hinge size, which is why a long leaf gets a heavier tube.
  • Finish: base protection and powder coat go on at the shop, so no raw weld is left to rust in your yard.
  • Hanging: posts are set first, and a pair is typically hung within 2 to 3 days of shop delivery.

Custom Gate Cost in Round Rock

A custom driveway gate in Round Rock typically costs an estimated $4,000 to $8,000 for a dual swing estate pair with its operators, and the opening width, the steel gauge and the amount of scrollwork move the number most. Steel Gauge, Scroll and Style Compared

Gauge, scroll weight and top line decide how a Lakeway or Round Rock custom gate looks and how long it hangs true. The table compares the common builds by what each is best for.

Codes, Permits and HOA Rules for a Custom Gate

A custom gate in Round Rock rarely needs a fence permit, but a lot on a Historic Overlay needs a Certificate of Appropriateness before any structure, fences included. In Round Rock a 2016 city ordinance also covers street-facing fences over 4 ft, which allows no more than 1 ft of lean and sets a 60-day repair clock, and in 12 years we have seen it matter on older streets. HOA covenants are the other gate, and Texas SB 711 lets an association require a driveway gate set back 10 ft where the driveway meets a laned road, which matters from Cedar Park to Lakeway. We read the covenant before we draw, from Shady Hollow to Steiner Ranch.

Finishes and Materials for a Custom Gate

Steel takes a custom shape best, and the finish decides how it ages outside in Round Rock or Leander. We compare frames on our steel gate installation page, and our wrought iron gates page covers the forged and cast parts that give a gate its ornament. Ground around the Balcones Escarpment runs blackland to the east and limey loam to the west, so we dig, check the soil on site and set the footings to what we find.

Why Round Rock Owners Trust Our Welders

Owners choose our shop because the same crew draws, welds and hangs the gate, and our owner signs off the drawing before steel is cut. Over 1,187 projects in 12 years have taught us where a custom leaf sags, and the 2-year workmanship warranty stands behind the welds.

Custom Gate Service Areas

We fabricate for Round Rock and the nearby cities, with most custom pairs going to Georgetown, Cedar Park and Leander, and the larger estate entries to Barton Creek and Lakeway. Shady Hollow and Barton Creek sit inside our 35-mile service radius, and a pair reaches them already welded and coated.

Related Builds for Custom Gates

A custom gate usually pairs with automatic driveway gate operators, the estate entry gates and columns they hang between, and a driveway gate installation crew for the footings. Curtis in Buttercup Creek chose a 14 ft horizontal slat gate.

Questions About a Custom Driveway Gate

How much does a custom driveway gate cost in Round Rock?

Cedar Park owners typically see an estimated $4,000 to $8,000 for a dual swing estate pair with operators, though the approved drawing and your written quote fix the final price.

How long does fabrication take?

Most Georgetown installs take an estimated 2 to 3 days on site for a pair, after the shop has welded and finished the leaves.

Can you copy a gate I already like?

Yes, we trace a photo or an old gate the way we traced Lupe's family scroll, and draw it to your opening.

What steel do you build with?

The frame steel on a pair like Lupe's is 14-gauge tube for standard leaves, 11-gauge to 3/16 in where a long or tall leaf has to hold its line.

Will the finish rust?

Base protection goes on before any color, then a TGIC polyester powder coat at 3 to 5 mils, oven cured, picked from physical samples.

Can the gate have spear points?

Yes, unless your neighborhood bars them, since flat-top rails and brown or bronze finishes are stocked for neighborhoods whose design rules bar spear points or black, as in Lakeway.

Do I need a permit for a custom gate in Round Rock?

Usually not, since Round Rock requires no residential fence permit, though we hold the drawing for a Historic Overlay lot until its Certificate of Appropriateness is issued.

What warranty comes with a custom gate?

The maker covers parts separately, and ours is a 2-year workmanship warranty on our welds, hinges, footings and operator installation.
