Marshall's narrow side-entry lot off RM 2243 in Leander had a garage that sat too close to the street for any gate to swing. We hung a 16 ft slide across a level drive, set the track flush so the car and the mower could cross it, and added an edge sensor on the closing edge. The galvanized steel, satin black powder coat leaf came to an estimated $2,900 to $4,600 and took an estimated 2 to 3 days on site. The 16 ft slide in Leander now clears the garage corner by the width of the fence line it follows.

When a Sliding Gate Beats a Swing Gate

A sliding gate wins when the drive is short, the lot is narrow or the ground rises toward the street, because the leaf moves along the fence and never into the drive. A swing needs a clear arc; a slide needs a clear run beside the opening equal to the width of the leaf.

  • Short drive: a car parked near the street in Round Rock cannot block a leaf that never swings out over it.
  • Narrow lot: a side-entry lot like Marshall's in Leander gives a slide its run along the fence.
  • Uphill approach: a swing gate drags on a rising grade, while a level track in Cedar Park keeps the slide true.
  • Tall privacy leaf: a solid slide in Georgetown has no outside arc to catch the wind.

How Much a Sliding Gate Runs in Round Rock

A sliding gate in Round Rock typically costs an estimated $1,500 to $5,000 for a ground-track slide with its operator, and the leaf length, the run beside the opening and the entry devices move the number most. A short slide with a keypad sits near the low end, while a long solid leaf with an intercom pedestal sits near the top.

Track, Debris and Safety Risks on a Sliding Gate

A sliding gate fails first where the track collects grit, so for a Georgetown slide the track is the part we plan around. Dirt and leaves pack a groove, and a groove stops a wheel, so a ground track in Leander is set flush and kept clear while a trackless cantilever is the answer on dusty or sloped ground. A closing edge also moves along a fence, so a person beside the fence needs a sensor to stop it. Round Rock's Fire Marshal published Emergency Access Controlled Gate Systems Guidelines in July 2023 for fire-lane gates; a house driveway is not a fire-lane gate, so on a house we ask your fire authority what applies and wire a Knox key switch, Opticom receiver or siren sensor, set to whatever the local fire authority calls for.

Setback, Permit and HOA Rules for a Slide

Round Rock issues no residential fence permit for a slide, and the two local checks are a Certificate of Appropriateness, needed first on a Historic Overlay lot, and a 2016 ordinance on street-facing fences over 4 ft. An HOA in Cedar Park or Georgetown may also require a driveway gate set back 10 ft where the driveway meets a laned road under Texas SB 711, effective September 1, 2025. We read the covenant before we draw, so a Cedar Park or Georgetown owner does not pay for a layout the HOA turns down.

Materials and Operators for a Sliding Gate

Steel carries a long slide best, and the operator rides a rack on the leaf. Compare frames on our steel gate installation page, or read how the motor is chosen on our automatic driveway gates page. The Balcones Escarpment splits blackland east from limey loam west, so we check the ground on site before we set the track footing.

Why Tight-Lot Owners Trust Our Sliding Gates

Leander and Round Rock owners choose us because the same crew lays out the track, welds the leaf and tests the sensors. Over 1,187 projects in 12 years have taught us where a slide binds, and the 2-year workmanship warranty stands behind the welds.

Sliding Gate Service Areas

We install slides across Round Rock and the nearby cities, with most narrow-lot work in Leander, Cedar Park and Georgetown, plus Lakeway and The Hills. A 35-mile radius from our shop also sends slide crews to Steiner Ranch and Barton Creek.

Other Services for a Sliding Entry

A slide often pairs with gate access control, a trackless cantilever gate where the ground is rough, or a gate operator installation on a slide you already own.

Questions About Sliding Gates on Tight Lots

How much does a sliding gate cost in Round Rock?

Expect an estimated $1,500 to $5,000 in Round Rock for a ground-track slide with an operator, with leaf length and the fence-line run deciding the figure on your written quote.

How long does a sliding gate install take?

Most Leander and Cedar Park slide installs take an estimated 2 to 3 days on site.

How much room does a slide need beside the opening?

A run beside the opening about equal to the leaf width, which is why Marshall's 16 ft slide in Leander needs a clear fence line.

Will the track clog with dirt?

A flush track needs periodic clearing, and a trackless cantilever avoids the track on dusty ground.

Is a sliding gate safe for children and pets?

Yes, every Round Rock slide gets monitored photo eyes and edge sensors, with the reverse proven on each device at handover.

Can you convert my swing gate to a slide?

Yes, if the lot has the run beside the opening, and a retrofit of the operator typically takes an estimated 4 to 8 hours.

Does a slide need a permit in Round Rock?

Not for a house in Round Rock, which has no residential fence permit, but get a Certificate of Appropriateness first if the lot is on a Historic Overlay.

What warranty covers a sliding gate?

The motor is the operator maker's to warrant, and everything we build on a Round Rock slide, meaning welds, hinges, footings and operator installation, has our 2-year workmanship warranty.
